U.S. hotel occupancy rates decline for week ending October 15

STR reports that the U.S. hotel industry experienced negative results for the week ending October 15.

Comparing year-over-year numbers, the industry’s occupancy fell 1.4 percent to 70.7 percent.  Average daily rate stayed nearly flat (-0.2 percent, to US $123.84).  And revenue per available room fell 1.6 percent to US $87.57.

The Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Va., area experienced the only double-digit increase in occupancy (up 16.1 percent to 65.9 percent).  It also saw the largest lift in RevPAR (up 20.7 percent to US $60.22).

Tampa-St. Petersburg, Fla., saw the only double-digit rise in ADR (up 10.6 percent to US $120.24), and the only other double-digit rise in RevPAR (up 10.9 percent to US $85.89).

Houston posted the largest declines across the three performance metrics.
